These foods should make up the biggest portion on your plate: potatoes, wholegrain cereals, bread, pasta, rice, barley, couscous, oats and millet, for example. They are low in fat, high in fiber and rich in complex carbohydrates which are digested slowly and help sustain energy levels throughout the day

Fruit and vegetables
These should make up the next larges portion: they are low in fat, high in fiber and rich in vitamins, minerals and other plant chemicals which are believed to play and important part in preventing many illnesses common in industrialized societies, such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.
